NFL Mock Draft King

1. SAM BRADFORD 6′4″ 223 QB OKLAHOMA

 Bradford has now become the front runner to be the top pick in the 2010 Draft. I agree that any rebuilding team in the NFL needs a franchise QB to build around, but St. Louis is taking the wrong one. In my opinion, Jimmy Clausen is the best quarterback in this draft class and if the Rams were going to address the position he should be the guy. Bradford is coming off of a series of injuries to his right shoulder, missing most of his season, adding questions about his durability. I do believe that Bradford will have a good professional career, I just strongly feel they are missing the boat by allowing Claussen to slip past them.

2. NDAMUKONG SUH 6′4″ 300 DT NEBRASKA

In the strong majority of my previous mock’s I had Detroit taking Okung. With the recent acquisition of Sims, and Jim Schwartz’s love for Jeff Backus, they go with Suh. Let me be clear, in no way should they take Suh here but they will. They’re first priority should be to protect their franchise QB, but that theory appears lost with this organization.  Okung is still a possibility here, but a slight one.

3. GERALD McCOY 6′4″ 297 DT OKLAHOMA

Raheem Morris and the Bucs would have preferred to have Suh slip down, but they will be more than happy to go with McCoy. There had been doubt there would have been either of the tandem of McCoy and Suh available here at 3, and they won’t hesitate to grab the Sooner and begin to rebuild the defense.  McCoy has to be the pick here. McCoy is an absolute monster in the interior, and would give a much needed interior presence in Tampa they have been lacking since Warren Sapp. McCoy will immediately upgrade the Tampa D, and bring some swagger back to the Tampa area.

4. RUSSELL OKUNG 6′5″ 300 OT OKLAHOMA STATE

With the recent acquisition of Donovan McNabb, the Skins can now address the void left by Chris Samuels and grab their new left tackle. Okung is the clear cut top rated O-Lineman of this draft class, and will be an anchor on Washington’s front for years to come. An absolute no brainer pick. Okung goes to Washington.

5. BRYAN BULAGA  6′6″  312  OT  IOWA

 As we near the draft more and more reports have come out of KC, that Pioli will be addressing the offensive line. I strongly feel they will be making a huge mistake letting Berry slip by, but Pioli has a system and a track record to go with it, and it is an effective one.  

Previous Pick: Berry, Tennessee

 6. ERIC BERRY  5′11″  203  S  TENNESSEE  

With Seattle having holes all over the field this pick can go numerous ways. Matt Hasselbeck is done, so Clausen could be a possibility here, but Pete Carrol will address the defensive side of the ball, and go with Berry. Berry will be the pick because at this point, Seattle is extremely thin at Safety and Berry will undoubtedly be able to step in from day 1 and start. Trent Williams, and C.J. Spiller are possibilities here as well.

7.  JOE HADEN 5′11″  190  CB FLORIDA

It’s going to be another long year for Cleveland fans in 2010. They have holes all over the field, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Even with the addition of Sheldon Brown this offseason, he is older and there is talk of him even moving over to Safety. Haden paired up with Eric Wright will give Cleveland two above average cover corners to rely on in pass coverage while they work out their pass rush woes.

8. BRUCE CAMPBELL 6′7″  310 OT MARYLAND

With the performance Campbell had at the combine he solidified himself a spot in the top- 20, and surely opened up the eyes of Al Davis, if in fact he was aware of what was going on in Indianapolis. This pick will come down to two people. Campbell or Taylor Mays. Campbell should win out. He fits a big need they have on the edge, and is the athletic freak Al Davis loves.

9. JIMMY CLAUSEN   6′3″  223 QB NOTRE DAME

This pick is a relatively easy one. With Trent Edwards, Brian Brohm, and Ryan Fitzpatrick the options at QB, you have big problems. The addition of Donovan McNabb to the Skins virtually ensures that Clausen will drop down to 9. In my opinion he will be the best QB to come out of this class, so the Bills get a steal here. Look for him to be the starter by mid season, and finally begin to rebuild an absolutely horrific passing game in Buffalo.

10. DERRICK MORGAN 6′4″  220  DE  GEORGIA TECH

The closer we get to draft day the more and more I think the Jags will trade down and get some more picks because they have quite a few needs. The Giants may be a match if they feel like Denver or Miami are a threat to take Rolando McClain. Aaron Kampman’s signing won’t sway them from pulling the trigger for Morgan, a top- 5 talent guy, and a value pick at 10.

11. DEZ BRYANT 6′2″ 210 WR OKLAHOMA STATE

Brandon Marshall was finally moved to Miami, which now finalizes the soap opera that has been Denver over the past year.Regardless of whether McDaniels feels Dez will be a diva or not will not make a difference. With Marshall gone they will be extremely deficient at the receiver position, and with the #1 WR on the board, he’s the pick. Bryant goes to Denver.

12. JASON PIERRE-PAUL 6′6″ 260 DE/OLB SOUTH FLORIDA  

With Miami parting ways with Joey Porter, and the fact Jason Taylor could take off for the Jets, you get a big time need for an edge rusher. Look for Parcells to go with JPP here. He is almost an exact clone of  DeMarcus Ware, the same player Parcells drafted 11th in the ‘05 draft. JPP is somewhat wet behind the ears, as this has been his 1st season against 1-A competition, however hes skill set is off the charts, and that 4.6 forty won’t hurt his case either.

  13. TRENT WILLIAMS  6′5″  318  OT  OKLAHOMA

The 49ers have a hole at the right tackle position. Williams stock has risen consistently over the past month or so, and is now being considered a top-10 talent. With this selection, Singletary can have Williams step in at right tackle from day 1, or move Staley from left to right, which has recently been discussed internally amongst the front office. If Williams falls to 13, he’s a solid pick for San Fran.

14. CHARLES BROWN  6′5″  296 OT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

With two picks in the first round, and above average depth at the tackle position in this years draft, Seattle will take a chance with Berry with the first of two picks in this round. With the second pick there is no doubt what position will be addressed, O-Tackle. Who better for Pete Carroll to plug in than a player who has been under him for the past 4 years. This may be a bit early for Brown, but he is obviously a fit for the scheme that will be put in place, and with some time will grow into a consistent player on the edge.

15. ROLANDO McCLAIN 6′4″ 256 ILB ALABAMA

There is little question where the G-Men need to make improvements this offseason and it begins in the middle with the selection of Rolando McClain.At 6?4? and 256lbs. is a monster who is stout against the run and exceptional is pass coverage for a player his size, which will be vital in new DC Perry Fewell’s Tampa 2 Style D. McClain has made plays since the day he stepped on campus at Alabama, and look for him to be New York’s team leader for years to come.

16. EVERSON GRIFFEN  6′4″ 273 DE  SOUTHERN CAL.

This pick will come down to one of Griffen, Kyle Wilson, and Devin McCourty. Griffen had a big time pro-day. The Titans love work out warriors, and he certainly fits the profile. Luckily for Titan fans, he fits a need as well, and will help take some of the pressure off an already thin secondary. The CB stock this year is deep, which will allow Tennessee to address the position in the later rounds.

17. C.J. SPILLER  5′11″ 195 RB CLEMSON

Many mocks have Spiller going to the 49ers at 13. I have them addressing their biggest need first, going with a tackle. When Spiller, a potential Top-10 guy falls to 17, the 9ers will run that draft card up to the podium. Frank Gore is still young no doubt, but he takes alot of punishment as he has logged a ton of carries, and has been a focal point in San Fran’s catching game for years. Spiller will help take some of the pressure off of Gore, will allow him to stay fresh, and keep some miles off of Gores legs. Spiller is a dynamic threat in all phases of the game, and look for him to upgrade their special teams immediately as well.

18. MIKE IUPATI 6′5″  330  OG  IDAHO

This pick is a tough one now in the wake of the Santonio Holmes trade. Receiver is definitely a need here, but I think it is still a bit early for Demaryius Thomas, or Golden Tate. Iupati wins out because there is nothing more important than protecting your franchise quarterback. There were times last season where Ben took a beating, and although he is mobile in the pocket, it almost appeared he was running for his life. Pittsburgh will shore up the offensive line to help both the run and the pass, and then turn it’s attention to Big Ben’s new legal troubles.

19. SEAN WEATHERSPOON 6′1″  245 OLB MISSOURI

Weatherspoon did wonders for his draft stock at the Senior Bowl. Going in he was a fringe 1st round pick, and assuming he is as impressive at the Combine, he will solidify his spot. This guy is a born leader, and an absolute player. Atlanta’s secondary was horrific last season, but with the addition of Dunta’ Robinson, they will go with Weatherspoon.

20. EARL THOMAS 5′10″  195  S  TEXAS

Houston’s primary goal is and always will be, to beat the colts. Secondary issues have held them back, and they stay inside Texas to address that need. Earl Thomas is a ballhawk, equally good against the run and the pass, and will easily step in for the aging Eugene Wilson. Dan Williams could be a possibility here as well to bolster the trenches, but it will be hard to look past Thomas.

21. TAYLOR MAYS 6′4″ 225   S  SOUTHERN CAL

With the addition of  Antonio Bryant Cincy will focus their attention elsewhere and address the secondary. The resigning of Roy Williams is just a band-aid on their safety situation. He is done. Marvin Lewis loves USC guys, and he will no doubt add Mays who is an absolute physical freak, and hope that some better coaching will help him progress in his pass coverage.

22. JERMAINE GRESHAM 6′6″ 258  TE OKLAHOMA

It doesn’t take a genius to make this pick. The Pats don’t have a viable starter on the roster. Even with all of their spread sets, Belicheck does utilize the tight end. As long as Cincy sticks with Mays as I presume they will, Gresham is the lock pick, and the opening day starter.

23. ANTHONY DAVIS 6′6″  330 OT RUTGERS

The Packers allowed a league worst 51 sacks this season. If it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers mobility god only knows how many times their QB would have hit the floor. Davis’ stock has faltered a bit because of laziness concerns, but he is a great talent, which will be enough to keep him in the 1st. Even after having 45 put on their Defense in the Wild Card round, the O-Line is what needs to be addressed to protect their franchise QB, and any hopes they have of returning to the playoffs.

24. KYLE WILSON  5′10″  190 CB BOISE STATE

With the Sheldon Brown trade there is now a big time need for a corner opposite Samuel. This pick will ultimately come down to Wilson and McCourty. In my opinion Wilson is the more complete player, has experience on special teams, and with the right coaches, will grow into an impact player and over time could turn out to be the steal of the draft.

25. DEVIN McCOURTY 5′11″ 193  CB  RUTGERS

With the addition of Tim Redding to man the Defensive End spot, the Ravens can now address the need at CB. Baltimore led the league in Pass Interference calls last season. Add that with the release of Samari Rolle, and you go ahead and get the best available corner in the draft. McCourty has seen his stock rise after a good performance following a solid season, and he becomes the pick at 25.

Previous Pick: Odrick, Penn State

26. BRANDON GRAHAM 6′1″ 263  OLB/DE  MICHIGAN

Graham’s star began to rise during Senior Bowl week, and has taken off ever since. Even with the addition of Joey Porter, the Cards need to bolster their pass rush, and they will not hesitate to select Graham on draft day if they are fortunate enough for him to fall this far. Graham will instantly bolster the pass rush with his speed off the edge, and his non-stop motor.

Previous Pick: Brown, USC

27. JARED ODRICK 6′5″ 308 DE PENN STATE

Odrick was another player who saw his stock rise as a result of the Senior Bowl. He can more than likely play on the inside or outside in a 3-4, but I think he would flourish as an end in the 3-4. Dallas lacks the youth at those positions with Olshansky and Spears, and he would add to the already dynamic defense they boast down in the lone star state.

Previous Pick: Cody, Alabama

28. RYAN MATHEWS 6′0″ 218  RB  FRESNO STATE

This pick comes down to need. The Chargers let LT bolt for the Jets, and have a glaring need at the running back position. Mathews turned in a good performance at the Senior Bowl, and showed his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Couple that with his ability as a ball carrier, and Mathews is the perfect fit to take over as the feature back in San Diego.

29. SERGIO KINDLE 6′4″ 254 DE/OLB TEXAS

With the addition of Santonio Holmes the Jets can now address their top priority; a pass rush threat to make up for the draft day disaster that is Vernon Ghoulston. While the Jets were ranked #1 in total D, those numbers are skewed do to the amount of time they possess the ball, running the ball a league high 60%, limiting the oppositions time of possession. The Jets ranked 18th in sacks with 32 to their credit, and adding Kindle here will help Tannenbaum forget about that 2008 draft in which the #6 overall pick was all but wasted.

Previous Pick: Tate, Notre Dame

30. MAURKICE POUNCEY  6′5″ 304  C/OG FLORIDA

With the Cedric Griffin injury corner is a big time need, but with the top corners already off the board they address another one of their needs on the interior of the O-Line. Pouncey will give the Vikes flexibilty to play at either guard or center, and will immediately upgrade an aging offensive line.

Previous Pick: Wilson, Boise State

31. DAN WILLIAMS  6′2″ 327  DT  TENNESSE

Some mocks have Williams going 20 picks earlier into a , and have the Colts addressing the O-Line here at 31. With Dan Williams slipping to the bottom of the round, Indy can address the offensive side of the ball in round 2, and significantly upgrade the trenches. Williams is thought to be an ideal fit in a 3-4, but he certainly has the versatility and ability to operate in either set, and will be the pick for Bill Polian and the Colts.

32. CARLOS DUNLAP  6′6″ 290 DE FLORIDA

New Orleans has a big time need for a pass rusher opposite Will Smith, and being that they are the defending champs, they can afford to take some chances. Dunlap is a top-15 player on talent alone, but his off-field problems have been well documented. If Dunlap can keep himself out of trouble, the Saints will find themselves with a huge value at 32, and make an already solid defense even better.

2. RUSSELL OKUNG 6′5″ 300 OT OKLAHOMA STATE

In the strong majority of my previous mock’s I had Detroit taking Okung. I had finally bought into the fact that Jim Schwartz was sold on Jeff Backus on the edge and that he wanted a playmaker on the interior of the D-Line, and he goes out and signs Corey Williams to a big deal, and moves Backus to guard. Suh may be too good to pass on, but I doubt the front office will want that much money locked up on the defensive tackle position. It’s almost seems like Detroit has opened up the left tackle position for Okung, and they are making a good decision in doing it. As I previously mentioned, Stafford had a hard time staying upright this past season, and it’s  one thing to get your franchise quarterback, but it’s another thing to keep him alive. Okung had a very good combine, and barring injury, he will be the cornerstone of that offensive line for years to come.

3. NDAMUKONG SUH 6′4″ 300 DT NEBRASKA

Raheem Morris and the Bucs will feel like they won the lottery if the draft plays out this way on April 22nd. There had been doubt there would have been either of the tandem of McCoy and Suh available here at 3, and now they have their pick.  Suh has to be the pick here. Suh is an absolute monster in the interior, and would give a much needed interior presence in Tampa they have been lacking since Warren Sapp. Suh will immediately upgrade the Tampa D, and bring some swagger back to the Tampa area.

4. JIMMY CLAUSEN 6′3″ 223 QB NOTRE DAME

With the hire of Mike Shannahan there isn’t a doubt in my mind he selects a QB with this selection, and he should thank the Rams for leaving the top QB on the board. In my opinion Campbell never had a chance to truly prove himself with the continuous carousel of coordinators and a lack of the depth at the reciever position, but Shannahan is starting over, and that new beginning starts under center. Claussen has been a highly touted prospect since the day he showed up in South Bend, so the transition from the college ranks to the pro ranks should be somewhat seamless, minus the basic growing pains of a rookie QB. Claussen has good size and can make all of the throws, and has excellent feet which often goes unnoticed.

5. ERIC BERRY  5′11″  203  S  TENNESSEE  

 While I completely understand Pioli’s draft tactics and approach, I can’t imagine him letting a player of Eric Berry’s caliber to slip past him. Pioli would love it if Okung slid down here to 5, but with him off the board at 2, that should make Berry the pick. I don’t disagree with the thought that you should address the trenches before anything else, but the Safety position has changed over the past few seasons, and is now a spot in which you need a dynamic playmaker to lead the defense, and Berry certainly is that. I am so sure of Berry’s abilities and potential, I could easily see him landing in the top-3, so at this point it’s a steal. I hope Pioli feels the same.

6. GERALD McCOY 6′4″ 297 DT OKLAHOMA

 Pete Carroll would love if one of Bradford or Clausen fell to him here at 6, but with that no longer an option, and Seattle’s problems on the defensive side of the ball, drafting McCoy is an absolute ground ball. It’s an absolute no brainer at this point. McCoy is considered widely as the #1 prospect in the draft to many prognosticators, and will not disappoint as he will help resurrect an awful defense in Seattle.

Previous Pick: Bradford, Oklahoma  

7. C.J. SPILLER  5′11″  195  RB CLEMSON

It’s going to be another long year for Cleveland fans in 2010. They have holes all over the field, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Joe Haden would have been a near lock if it wasn’t for that horrific forty time, and that  is enough to scare of Mangini and Co. Offensively, they are almost as bad. Receiver is a huge need, but I can’t imagine Mangini taking on the diva like Dez Bryant, so they go to possibly the most electrifying player in the draft class with Spiller. Between Chris Jennings and Jerome Harrison, there isn’t much to write home about, but a pairing of Harrison and Spiller may be something to build on, and with Delhomme behind center, it should be expected they will be handing the ball off quite a bit. Spiller is the home run hitter every team wants, and can help in the return game as well.

8. BRUCE CAMPBELL 6′7″ 310 OT MARYLAND

9. BRYAN BULAGA  6′6″ 312 OT IOWA

There may have been some debate as to who the Bills would select here, but the recent retirement of Brad Butler they will undoubtedly go to Tackle, it’s just a matter of who. Even with Butler, the Bills allowed 46 sacks this past season, good for 4th worst in the league, and with Bulaga, they upgrade immediately. Bulaga could be off the board at 5 to the Chiefs, but with Pioli recently adding Ryan Lilja to solidify their offensive line, that should enable them to take Eric Berry, and Bulaga will be available for Buffalo and new head coach Chan Gailey.

Previous Pick: Davis, Rutgers

10. DERRICK MORGAN 6′4″ 220  DE  GEORGIA TECH

The closer we get to draft day the more and more I think the Jags will trade down and get some more picks because they have quite a few needs. 11. DEZ BRYANT 6′2″ 210 WR OKLAHOMA STATE

Brandon Marshall is all but gone in Denver. The only question remains if Josh McDaniels wants to deal with another receiver who is considered to be somewhat of a diva. Need will win out with this pick. Denver can’t win with Eddie Royal as their #1, so Bryant is the pick. Bryant will no doubt be a superstar in this league, and assuming he is in camp on time, he will be a force to be reckoned with by week 4.

12. JASON PIERRE-PAUL 6′6″ 260 DE/OLB SOUTH FLORIDA

Haden took care of business on his pro day, and erased questions about his speed with an impressive time. I still have Haden falling to 13 here, because of the needs, and the players available ahead of San Fran. Ultimately, I feel it comes down to Cleveland. If Cleveland takes a playmaker on offense, i.e. Spiller, Haden slides here to the niners, if Holmgren  passes on Spiller Haden will go at 7 to the Browns.

14. TRENT WILLIAMS  6′5″  318  OT  OKLAHOMA

Pete Caroll takes care of a big need on the offensive line with rising prospect Trent Williams. Williams had a so-so senior season in which he actually found himself moved inside to Center due to his performance. Williams had a nice combine, and his skill set will keep him in the top half of the first round, landing with the Seahawks.

15. ROLANDO McCLAIN 6′4″ 256 ILB ALABAMA

There is little question where the G-Men need to make improvements this offseason and it begins in the middle with the selection of Rolando McClain.At 6′4″ and 256lbs. is a monster who is stout against the run and exceptional is pass coverage for a player his size, which will be vital in new DC Perry Fewell’s Tampa 2 Style D. McClain has made plays since the day he stepped on campus at Alabama, and look for him to be New York’s team leader for years to come.

16. CARLOS DUNLAP  6′6″ 290 DE FLORIDA

The Titans ranked 31st in the league against the pass last season giving up an unreal 258 yards a game through the air. Detroit was the only team to line up on Sundays and do worse. Haden is long gone by now, so the Titans go with the one thing that can make average DB’s look good, a pass rusher. Dunlap’s off-field problems have been well documented, and laziness has been an issue as well. Jeff Fisher is one of the best in the league at dealing with personalities, so these issues won’t scare him off, and selects this top-5 talent at 16.

 17. BRANDON GRAHAM 6′1″ 263  OLB/DE  MICHIGAN

Graham’s star began to rise during Senior Bowl week, and has taken off ever since. Graham would be a value pick here for Mike Singletary at 17, and he would be able to have an immediate impact opposite Manny Lawson. Ahmad Brooks undoubtedly showed flashes at times last year, but a talent like this would be hard to pass up.

18. MIKE IUPATI 6′5″ 330  OG  IDAHO

This pick comes down to Iupati and possibly Kyle Wilson. Iupati wins out because there is nothing more important than protecting your franchise quarterback. There were times last season where Ben took a beating, and although he is mobile in the pocket, it almost appeared he was running for his life. Pittsburgh will shore up the offensive line to help both the run and the pass, and then turn it’s attention to Big Ben’s new legal troubles.

19. SEAN WEATHERSPOON 6′1″  245 OLB MISSOURI

Weatherspoon did wonders for his draft stock at the Senior Bowl. Going in he was a fringe 1st round pick, and assuming he is as impressive at the Combine, he will solidify his spot. This guy is a born leader, and an absolute player. Atlanta’s secondary was horrific last season, but with the addition of Dunta’ Robinson, they will go with Weatherspoon. Donovan Warren, Patrick Robinson could be available in the 2nd round to fortify the secondary.

 20. EARL THOMAS 5′10″  195  S  TEXAS

Houston’s primary goal is and always will be, to beat the colts. Secondary issues have held them back, and they stay inside Texas to address that need. Earl Thomas is a ballhawk, equally good against the run and the pass, and will easily step in for the aging Eugene Wilson. Dan Williams could be a possibility here as well to bolster the trenches, but it will be hard to look past Thomas.

21. TAYLOR MAYS 6′4″ 225   S  SOUTHERN CAL

With the addition of  Antonio Bryant Cincy will focus their attention elsewhere and address the secondary. The resigning of Roy Williams is just a band-aid on their safety situation. He is done. Marvin Lewis loves USC guys, and he will no doubt add Mays who is an absolute physical freak, and hope that some better coaching will help him progress in his pass coverage.

22. JERMAINE GRESHAM 6′6″ 258  TE OKLAHOMA

It doesn’t take a genius to make this pick. The Pats don’t have a viable starter on the roster. Even with all of their spread sets, Belicheck does utilize the tight end. As long as Cincy sticks with Mays as I presume they will, Gresham is the lock pick, and the opening day starter.

23. ANTHONY DAVIS 6′6″  330 OT RUTGERS

The Packers allowed a league worst 51 sacks this season. If it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers mobility god only knows how many times their QB would have hit the floor. Davis’ stock has faltered a bit because of laziness concerns, but he is a great talent, which will be enough to keep him in the 1st. Even after having 45 put on their Defense in the Wild Card round, the O-Line is what needs to be addressed to protect their franchise QB, and any hopes they have of returning to the playoffs.

24. MAURKICE POUNCEY  6′5″ 304  C/OG FLORIDA

I doubt the front office feels Darryl Tapp is the answer opposite Trent cole, but with the release of Shawn Andrews, and the injury to Jamaal Jackson, Pouncey would be the perfect fit. He will be able to step in at center if Jackson is unable to make a full recovery, and guard if Philly can’t find a viable replacement. This pick almost makes too much sense.

25. JARED ODRICK 6′5″ 308 DE PENN STATE

Odrick was another player who saw his stock rise as a result of the Senior Bowl. He can more than likely play on the inside or outside in a 3-4, but I think he would flourish as an end in the 3-4. Baltimore recently saw Justin Bannan jet for Denver and now stand a bit thin across the defensive line. Odrick is and his non-stop motor are the perfect fit for the Baltimore D.

26. CHARLES BROWN 6′5″  296 OT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Regardless of how long Matt Leinert held a clipboard, he should be considered a rookie until he proves otherwise. 2 things a rookie QB needs is a dependable tight end, and solid pass protection. With Gresham off the board, Arizona will address the other need, and take Charles Brown. Brown has all the tools to be a top flight player, and with a bit of time and quality coaching he will develop into just that.

27. TERRANCE CODY 6′5″ 365 DT ALABAMA

With Odrick gone, and no offensive tackle worthy of a first round grade available, they’ll take Mount Cody out of Alabama. This pick would allow Jay Ratliff to move to the D-End spot, and make their front 7 much more dynamic. While Cody may only be a 2 down player he is stout against the run, and can collapse the pocket against the pass. Cody also excels on special teams, as he has blocked more than a few FG attempts in his day, none more notable than his blocked FGA in the closing seconds vs. U of Tenn., to keep the perfect season in tact which allowed the Tide to roll on to the national championship.

28. RYAN MATHEWS 6′0″ 218  RB  FRESNO STATE

This pick comes down to need. The Chargers let LT bolt for the Jets, and have a glaring need at the running back position. Mathews turned in a good performance at the Senior Bowl, and showed his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Couple that with his ability as a ball carrier, and Mathews is the perfect fit to take over as the feature back in San Diego.

29. GOLDEN TATE 5′11″ 195  WR NOTRE DAME

Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery don’t scare too many teams when they line up on Sunday’s. Tate would be the perfect complement to a receiving corps whose best days are behind them. Tate has the ability to line up in the slot and could do some serious damage in the middle of the field with his catch and run ability, and his breakaway speed. Tate would also help in the return game, as Jim Leonhard leaves much to be desired in the punt game, and with Leon Washington coming off a broken leg, he can help in the kickoff department as well.

30. KYLE WILSON 5′10″  190 CB BOISE STATE

Kyle Wilson’s performance at the Senior Bowl just might have put him in the first round. With the recent injury to Cedric Griffin, it all but solidifies the need at CB. This pick will come down to Warren or Wilson. I’ll go with Wilson because he seems to be the hot name, and because he has added value in special teams. Wilson has a very good skill set to begin with, but once he gets some better coaching, and is around better players, he could become the steal of the draft.

31. DEVIN McCOURTY 5′11″ 193 CB  RUTGERS

Indy had injuries all over their secondary last season. That and the fact Marlin Jackson left equals a need for Bill Polian. The Colts fill that need with McCourty. McCourty has seen his stock consistently rise over the past few weeks, and will join an already young secondary, as they attempt to shore up that defensive side of the ball, and began their next run to a Super Bowl appearance.

32. DONOVAN WARREN 6′1″  182 CB MICHIGAN

The Saints are in a great spot. There are not many significant needs they have here so they go with the best player available and grab Warren. Warren is a big corner at 6?1? and can run with anyone. He has a very good skill set, and if Darren Sharper isn’t resigned could even have the ability to fill in the hole at safety. It’s a win-win pick for the defending Super Bowl Champs.

1. NDAMUKONG SUH 6′4″ 300 DT NEBRASKA

Reports out of St. Louis are that they may look to trade for Vick to fill the QB vacancy. With that being said, this pick becomes a no brainer, and Spagnuolo goes with Suh. Suh is a rare blend of size, speed and strength, and will wreak havoc in the oppositions backfield for years to come, and be the core of what the Rams hope is an up and coming defense.

2. GERALD McCOY 6′4″ 297 DT OKLAHOMA 

 Word out of Detroit is that Jim Schwartz wants a dynamic player in the interior of the defensive side of the ball. I suppose you could argue that Detroit is so far away, the best player available plan certainly applies here, but unless the tackle need is addressed via free agency, I feel they would be making a big mistake not taking Okung. Okung is a big time player and polished enough to where he could be a started immediately. Evidentally, the Lions feel Jeff Backus and the rest of the Detroit O-Line is sufficient as is, that same O-Line that had Stafford walking around bandaged up like a mummy. With that being said, there is no doubting McCoy and his abilities. He is stout in all facets. Some have him rated higher than Suh. Whichever way Detroit goes they will no doubt get a quality player, I just hope for Stafford’s sake they address the O-line at some point in the draft.

3. ERIC BERRY 5′11″ 203 S  TENNESSEE

The Bucs have a tremendous set of needs heading into the 2010 season. This pick will be on the defensive side of the ball in an attempt to bring back some swagger into Tampa. Berry draws comparisons to future hall of famer Ed Reed. With 4.4 speed, a nose for the ball, and the ability to lay the wood on opposing receivers who travel over the middle, Berry will bring leadership to a secondary that has been lacking it since they had John Lynch. I completely understand that the Top 3 isn’t one that frequents the Safety position, but the position, and importance of that position has changed, thus warranting such a high pick on a talent like Berry.

4. JIMMY CLAUSEN 6′3″ 223 QB NOTRE DAME

With the hire of Mike Shannahan there isn’t a doubt in my mind he selects a QB with this selection. In my opinion Campbell never had a chance to truly prove himself with the continuous carousel of coordinators and a lack of the depth at the reciever position, Shannahan is starting over, and that new beginning starts under center. Claussen has been a highly touted prospect since the day he showed up in South Bend, so the transition from the college ranks to the pro ranks should be somewhat seamless, minus the basic growing pains of a rookie QB. Claussen has good size and can make all of the throws, and has excellent feet which often goes unnoticed. Many mocks have Bradford going here, but I just don’t see it. Bradford didn’t have the arm Claussen had before the surgery, and he definitely doesn’t have it now. Shannahan likes strong armed quarterback’s, and Claussen is that. He will be the pick.

 

5. RUSSELL OKUNG  6′5″ 300  OT OKLAHOMA STATE   

Matt Cassel could certainly use some help as far as protection is concerned, and with Okung having the ability to be selected in the Top 3, he’s a no brainer at 5. In Okung they get a player with good size, long arms, and above average strength to go along with his excellent feet and athleticism.  

6. SAM BRADFORD 6′4″ 223 QB OKLAHOMA

New coaches mean new Quarterbacks. With Matt Hasselbeck well past his prime it is time for Seattle to bring in the ‘08 Heisman Winner and groom his as Hasselbeck’s successor. Bradford may have gone #1 overall last season however he opted to return to his senior season, one that was maligned with injury. Some question his post op arm strength, his durability, and his transition to the pro style offense. Bradford will have the opportunity to prove the nay sayers wrong come the combine, or his pro day, which will convice Pete Carroll he is the guy.

7. JOE HADEN 5′11″ 190 CB FLORIDA

Eric Mangini has many needs to address in this years draft, and he has 11 picks in this years draft to fix them. He could go tackle here but there is tremendous depth at that position this year, and a 1st round talent is sure to slip as the draft unfolds. It would be unlike Mangini to go with Dez Bryant here, so they’ll try to shore up that secondary with the top cover corner in the draft. Haden played from day one at UF, and he will do the same for the Browns.  

8. BRUCE CAMPBELL 6′7″ 310 OT MARYLAND

For the life of me, I just can’t figure out what Al Davis will do here. We all know he loves workout warriors and measurables, so it is possible he can look past Dunlap’s off field problems, and Taylor Mays is still a possibility here, but I’ll give old Al some credit, and assuming Cable, a former O-Line guy is still the HC, they’ll address their line problems here. Campbell has been dominant in his career at Maryland, and many feel Campbell could go sub 5.0 at the combine, which will help his cause to stay in the Top-10.   

 

9. ANTHONY DAVIS 6′6″ 330 OT RUTGERS  

There may have been some debate as to who the Bills would select here, but the recent retirement of Brad Butler they will undoubtedly go to Tackle, it’s just a matter of who. Even with Butler, the Bills allowed 46 sacks this past season, good for 4th worst in the league, and with Davis, they upgrade immediately. Davis is a big time athlete, and can be left out on an island at left tackle, and is absolutely dominant in run blocking, and will allow whoever is behind center to grow into the position, and move the offense down the field.

10. CARLOS DUNLAP 6′6″ 290 DE FLORIDA  

Tim Tebow had an absolute horrific Senior Bowl week which was a huge favor for the Jags. Tebow was so awful, some scouts were actually saying  he would have gone undrafted. Tebow will no doubt find a home in the NFL, and it is imperitive that Jacksonville comes away with him. He will be available in a later round for them to snatch him up. I have harped on the fact that Jacksonville is a franchise in trouble, and the Tebow selection would have been made more for money than anything else so they go for the best of both worlds with this selection, and grab Dunlap. With Dunlap they get a guy with Top-5 talent who has extreme question marks surrounding his character. With Dunlap, the Jags can bring some buzz back to the area by having a Gator in their uniform. If they can grab Tebow in a later round, and keep Dunlap on the field, this has the potential to be one of the best drafts in Jag history.

11. DEZ BRYANT 6′2″ 210 WR OKLAHOMA STATE

It is quite obvious that Josh McDaniels and Brandon Marshall can no longer co-exist in the same locker room. With Marshall moving on in the offseason, Bryant will be the pick here, and eventually evolve into the #1 receiver that Brandon Marshall was. Look for Bryant to have scouts in awe at the combine due to the fact he has the size, speed and athleticism to wreak havoc on the oppositions secondary.

12. JASON PIERRE-PAUL 6′6″ 260 DE/OLB SOUTH FLORIDA  

With Miami parting ways with Joey Porter, and the fact Jason Taylor is no longer effective  you get a big time need for an edge rusher. Look for Parcells to go with JPP here. He is almost an exact clone of  DeMarcus Ware, the same player Parcells drafted 11th in the ‘05 draft. JPP is somewhat wet behind the ears, as this has been his 1st season against 1-A competition, however hes skill set is off the charts, and that 4.6 forty won’t hurt his case either.

13. BRYAN BULAGA 6′6″ 312 OT IOWA

San Fran goes the way of the O-Line here with their first of two picks in the first round. Staley has been good, but not great, and Bulaga is pro ready, and would allow Staley to move to the right side, and upgrade their pass protection. Bulaga comes from a great tradition of offensive lineman at Iowa, and both Alex Smith and Frank Gore will benefit from this pick.

14. DERRICK MORGAN 6′4″ 220 DE GEORGIA TECH

Morgan is a steal at this point in the draft for Seattle. Seattle desperately needs to upgrade their pass rush ranking 26th in the league last year with 28. Pete Carroll is a defensive guy, and with the future of the QB position locked up he gets a guy with a wide array of pass rush moves who plays with an endless motor that any team would love to have coming off the edge. There is the possibility Carroll could go USC here, and grab Mays, I just think Morgan at 14 is just too good to pass up, and Mays could be around for Carroll in the 2nd.

15. ROLANDO McCLAIN 6′4″ 256 ILB ALABAMA

16. BRIAN PRICE 6′2″ 300 DT UCLA

The Titans have needs in the defensive backfield, as well as the need for a speed rusher, but they go with Price here to shore up the inside in an attempt to fill the void Haynesworth has left. The Titans ranked 31st in the league against the pass last season giving up an unreal 258 yards a game through the air, so they could reach a bit for a corner, but at this point in the draft, most teams look for more of a sure thing, and Price is that.

17. C.J. SPILLER 5′11″ 195 RB CLEMSON

Many mocks have Spiller going to the 49ers. I was in disagreement with this for quite a while, but I have drank the kool-aid, and I now agree. Frank Gore is still young no doubt, but he takes alot of punishment as he has logged a ton of carries, and has been a focal point in San Fran’s catching game for years. Spiller will help take some of the pressure off of Gore, will allow him to stay fresh, and keep some miles off of Gores legs. Spiller is a dynamic threat in all phases of the game, and look for him to upgrade their special teams immediately as well.

18. EARL THOMAS 5′10″ 195 S TEXAS

The Troy Polamolu loss crushed the defending Super Bowl champs any chance of a repeat. The Steelers gave up a league most 5 leads in the 4th quarter this past season which was the main reason they were on the outside looking in on the post season tournament. With the possibility of Ryan Clark leaving via free agency, look for Pitt to select this ballhawk out of Texas who has the ability to stop the run, with the ability to capitalize on the oppositions mistakes through the air with the ability to take it back to the house. The Steelers could also go with C.J. Spiller here to work with Mendenhall if he slides, or possibly a Receiver as Hines Ward is on his last legs.

19. SEAN WEATHERSPOON 6′1″ 245 OLB MISSOURI

Weatherspoon did wonders for his draft stock at the Senior Bowl. Going in he was a fringe 1st round pick, and assuming he is as impressive at the Combine, he will solidify his spot. This guy is a born leader, and an absolute player. Atlanta’s secondary was horrific last season, but with no outstanding cb’s on the board to this point, they will go with Weatherspoon. Donovan Warren, Patrick Robinson, and Kyle Wilson could be available in the 2nd round.

20. DAN WILLIAMS 6′2″ 329 DT Tennessee

With Earl Thomas gone, and with Taylor Mays faults in pass coverage, Kubiak addresses the D-Tackle spot with big Dan Williams. Williams is a monster in the middle, and has the ability to take on the double at the point of attack, as well as collapse the pocket vs. the pass. Taylor Mays could be a possibility here, I just find it hard to believe the Texan front office wants to live through Mays’ growing pains with Peyton in the division.

21. GOLDEN TATE 5′11″ 195 WR NOTRE DAME

Cincy MUST get a receiver this off-season. I can definitely see T.O. going over there and making a difference, which will change the direction in which Lewis uses this pick, but for now, we’ll assume otherwise. Cincinatti has become a run first pass later team. Cedric Benson has rejuvinated his career, running for over 1,200 yards this past season. Teams are able to crowd the box making it harder on Benson due to the fact they only have one wideout that poses any threat, in Ochocinco. The pick here is Tate. Tate will help open up some running lanes for Benson, while giving Carson Palmer another option. At times this past season it seemed as if the only number Palmer saw was 85. This will help with his progressions, and make him the prime passer he truly is. In addition Tate can help in special teams, which is always a plus, especially when it comes to rookies. Benn or Williams could be the pick here as well, but with a stout D, and a big time runner, there is little doubt, Marvin Lewis needs to help his passing game.

22. JERRY HUGHES 6′2″ 255 DE/OLB TCU   

 Initially, I had the Pats going with a running back or even a tight end here, but after the beating the Ravens put on them at home, I feel they need a complete overhaul on D. With Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel both traded, the Pats were left with few playmakers and even less experience this season. Hughes will be able to step in immediately and help that putrid defense that left the Patriot faithful booing their home team for the first time in years. Hughes is the speed rusher off the edge the Pats need to disrupt the oppositions backfield, and with Belicheck running the D, look for Hughes to take his athleticism and speed, and bring back the intimidation the Pats D has lost over the years.

23. TRENT WILLIAMS 6′5″ 318 OT OKLAHOMA

24. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES TAYLOR MAYS 6′4″ 225 S SOUTHERN CAL  

At 6′4″, 225 Mays is that rare player in the secondary that hits like a linebacker and runs like a corner. Although mays boasts 4.4 speed there are questions surrounding his ability in coverage. With that being said there is little doubt about his ability to stop the run and lay the wood against receivers who dare to come over the middle. Philly could go a few ways here but Reid goes with the talent and takes Mays to try and fill the shoes of Philly favorite Brian Dawkins, and solidify that secondary.

25. ARRELIOUS BENN 6′2″ 220 WR ILLINOIS

Even with the recent addition of Donte Stallworth, Baltimore needs some more playmakers out of the wide receiver position. This pick will be the best receiver available at this point in the draft out of Damian Williams, Arrelious Benn, and Brandon Lafell. At this point I’m sticking with Benn. Benn is a big, physical receiver, however he had an absolutely horrific season at Illinois totaling 38 grabs for 490 and 2 TD’s. Benn has taken a few hits for his lack of effort and the amount of drops this past season, but I feel need, and potential win out here and the pick is Benn. With a good quarterback getting him the Ball, and some coaching to go with it, Benn will develop into the #1 receiver Baltimore has been lacking since their inception.

26. JERMAINE GRESHAM 6′6″ 258 TE OKLAHOMA 

With Kurt Warner retiring and Matt Leinert at the helm, the offense will be run much differently this season. Leinert is in essence a rookie, and the one thing a rookie QB needs is a safety valve. None of the tight ends on the Cards are much of a receiving threat, and they add Gresham here to change that. Gresham has dealt with injury throughout his career, but his potenital and ability make him a steal at 26.

27. JARED ODRICK 6′5″ 308 DE PENN STATE

Odrick was another player who saw his stock rise as a result of the Senior Bowl. He can more than likely play on the inside or outside in a 3-4, but I think he would flourish as an end in the 3-4. Dallas lacks the youth at those positions with Olshansky and Spears, and he would add to the already dynamic defense they boast down in the lone star state.

28. JONATHAN DWYER 6′0″ 235 RB GEORGIA TECH 

Many have Ryan Mathews as the 2nd best back in this draft and I’m not buying it. I love Dwyer’s ability to carry the ball on the inside and he has enough speed to stretch the field and bust one. The one thing in doubt is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, which is very important in this offense. If he can prove that he has good enough hands, and assuming they come to an agreement with Sproles, you are looking at a great 1-2 punch for the Super Chargers.

29. BRANDON GRAHAM 6′1″ 263 OLB MICHIGAN

Brandon Graham put on an absolute show at the Senior Bowl taking home MVP honors. While the Jets are ranked #1 in total D, those numbers are skewed do to the amount of time they possess the ball, running the ball a league high 60%, thus limiting the oppositions opportunities. The Jets rank 18th in sacks with 32 to their credit, and adding Graham here will help Tannenbaum forget about that 2008 draft when he wasted the #6 pick on Vernon Ghoulston.

30. KYLE WILSON 5′10″ 190 CB BOISE STATE

Kyle Wilson’s performance at the Senior Bowl just might have put him in the first round. With the recent injury to Cedric Griffin, it all but solidifies the need at CB. This pick will come down to Warren or Wilson. I’ll go with Wilson because he seems to be the hot name, and because he has added value in special teams. Wilson has a very good skill set to begin with, but once he gets some better coaching, and is around better players, he could become the steal of the draft.

31. MIKE IUPATI 6′5″ 330 OG IDAHO

The Colts allowed a league low amount of sacks this season with 13, but in my opinion that has more to do with Peyton’s quick release and blitz recognition, than it does line performance. With Iupati the Colts get the top ranked OG in the draft. Iupati may not be able to step in Week 1 and start, but after some time with the Indy coaching staff, he will no doubt be ready by mid-season 2010, and a full time starter in 2011. The Colts could look to address an injury prone secondary as well.

32. DONOVAN WARREN 6′1″ 182 CB MICHIGAN

The Saints are in a great spot. There are not many significant needs they have here so they go with the best player available and grab Warren. Warren is a big corner at 6′1″ and can run with anyone. He has a very good skill set, and if Darren Sharper isn’t resigned could even have the ability to fill in the hole at safety. It’s a win-win pick for the defending Super Bowl Champs.

1. NDAMUKONG SUH 6′4″ 300 DT NEBRASKA

Reports out of St. Louis are that they may look to trade for Vick to fill the QB vacancy. With that being said, this pick becomes a no brainer, and Spagnuolo goes with Suh. Suh is a rare blend of size, speed and strength, and will wreak havoc in the oppositions backfield for years to come, and be the core of what the Rams hope is an up and coming defense.

2. RUSSELL OKUNG 6′5″ 300 OT OKLAHOMA STATE

The Lions have plenty of needs and could go in quite a few directions. The Lions select Okung here to protect the investment that was made with the #1 pick in last years draft. Detroit allowed 43 sacks to go along with 94 hits on the QB this past season, leaving them in the bottom ten of the NFL in both categories. In Okung they get a player with good size, long arms, and above average strength to go along with his excellent feet and athleticism. Detroit could also take Gerald McCoy here but their main goal should be to keep Stafford upright and out on the field, instead of inside the trainers room or on the operating table.

3. GERALD McCOY 6′4″ 297 DT OKLAHOMA

The Bucs have a tremendous set of needs heading into the 2010 season. This pick will remain on the defensive side of the ball in an attempt to bring back some swagger into Tampa. I have changed this pick from Berry to McCoy because in my opinion you need to build inside out, and above all else be able to stop the run. While Berry will support the run defense, McCoy will have his nose right in the middle of it, and be a building block for Raheem Morris to build around. McCoy will step in immediately, and with his high motor, and explosiveness he will be a game changer, and be a big piece to revitalizing the defense for the Bucs.

4. JIMMY CLAUSEN 6′3″ 223 QB NOTRE DAME

With the hire of Mike Shannahan there isn’t a doubt in my mind he selects a QB with this selection. In my opinion Campbell never had a chance to truly prove himself with the continuous carousel of coordinators and a lack of the depth at the reciever position, Shannahan is starting over, and that new beginning starts under center. Claussen has been a highly touted prospect since the day he showed up in South Bend, so the transition from the college ranks to the pro ranks should be somewhat seamless, minus the basic growing pains of a rookie QB. Claussen has good size and can make all of the throws, and has excellent feet which often goes unnoticed. Many mocks have Bradford going here, but I just don’t see it. Bradford didn’t have the arm Claussen had before the surgery, and he definitely doesn’t have it now. Shannahan likes strong armed quarterback’s, and Claussen is that. He will be the pick.

5. ERIC BERRY 5′11″ 203 S  TENNESSEE

With the emergence of Jamaal Charles and last seasons addition of Matt Cassel, Todd Haley now has some playmakers and youth to build around. KC could definitely use a tackle here due to the fact they have a horrific offensive line, but Berry is simply too good to pass up here. Berry draws comparisons to future hall of famer Ed Reed, with 4.4 speed, a nose for the ball, and the ability to lay the wood on opposing receivers who travel over the middle. Berry will bring leadership to a secondary that has been lacking, and help Romeo Crennel change the culture of the Chief defense for years to come.

6. SAM BRADFORD 6′4″ 223 QB OKLAHOMA

New coaches mean new Quarterbacks. With Matt Hasselbeck well past his prime it is time for Seattle to bring in the ‘08 Heisman Winner and groom his as Hasselbeck’s successor. Bradford may have gone #1 overall last season however he opted to return to his senior season, one that was maligned with injury. Some question his post op arm strength, his durability, and his transition to the pro style offense. Bradford will have the opportunity to prove the nay sayers wrong come the combine, or his pro day, which will convice Pete Carroll he is the guy.

7. JOE HADEN 5′11″ 190 CB FLORIDA

Eric Mangini has many needs to address in this years draft, and he has 11 picks in this years draft to fix them. He could go tackle here but there is tremendous depth at that position this year, and a 1st round talent is sure to slip as the draft unfolds. It would be unlike Mangini to go with Dez Bryant here, so they’ll try to shore up that secondary with the top cover corner in the draft. Haden played from day one at UF, and he will do the same for the Browns.

8. BRUCE CAMPBELL 6′7″ 310 OT MARYLAND

For the life of me, I just can’t figure out what Al Davis will do here. We all know he loves workout warriors and measurables, so it is possible he can look past Dunlap’s off field problems, and Taylor Mays is still a possibility here, but I’ll give old Al some credit, and assuming Cable, a former O-Line guy is still the HC, they’ll address their line problems here. Campbell has been dominant in his career at Maryland, and many feel Campbell could go sub 5.0 at the combine, which will help his cause to stay in the Top-10.

 
9. ANTHONY DAVIS 6′6″ 330 OT RUTGERS

Some feel the Bills lack a QB for the future, but with Claussen and Bradford off of the board their choice is made for them, and they go with their most glaring need of all, offensive tackle. The Bills allowed 46 sacks this past season, good for 4th worst in the league, and with Davis, they upgrade immediately. Davis is a big time athlete, and can be left out on an island at left tackle, and is absolutely dominant in run blocking, and will allow whoever is behind center to grow into the position, and move the offense down the field.

10. TIM TEBOW 6′3″ 235 QB FLORIDA

In spite of Tebow’s lackluster performance at the Senior Bowl, I just feel it would be a huge blow to an already down franchise for the Florida star to suit up elsewhere. Ravens owner, Steve Bisciotti, recently came out stating how some players throughout the NFL were making more money than the owners, and I feel the Jags fall into this category. As I have previously stated, Tebow is by no means worthy of a Top 10 selection, I just thing the front office makes this pick more for financial reasons than anything else. For their case, I hope I’m wrong.

11. DEZ BRYANT 6′2″ 210 WR OKLAHOMA STATE

It is quite obvious that Josh McDaniels and Brandon Marshall can no longer co-exist in the same locker room. With Marshall moving on in the offseason, Bryant will be the pick here, and eventually evolve into the #1 receiver that Brandon Marshall was. Look for Bryant to have scouts in awe at the combine due to the fact he has the size, speed and athleticism to wreak havoc on the oppositions secondary.

12. JASON PIERRE-PAUL 6′6″ 260 DE/OLB SOUTH FLORIDA

Joey Porter has gone all over the country telling whoever will listen he wants out of Miami. Miami may feel he is running on fumes anyhow, so expect him to get moved. Add that to the fact Jason Taylor is no longer effective, and you get a big time need for an edge rusher. Look for Parcells to go with JPP here. He is almost an exact clone of  DeMarcus Ware, the same player Parcells drafted 11th in the ‘05 draft. JPP is somewhat wet behind the ears, as this has been his 1st season against 1-A competition, however hes skill set is off the charts, and that 4.6 forty won’t hurt his case either.

13. BRYAN BULAGA 6′6″ 312 OT IOWA

San Fran goes the way of the O-Line here with their first of two picks in the first round. Staley has been good, but not great, and Bulaga is pro ready, and would allow Staley to move to the right side, and upgrade their pass protection. Bulaga comes from a great tradition of offensive lineman at Iowa, and both Alex Smith and Frank Gore will benefit from this pick.

14. DERRICK MORGAN 6′4″ 220 DE GEORGIA TECH

Morgan is a steal at this point in the draft for Seattle. Seattle desperately needs to upgrade their pass rush ranking 26th in the league last year with 28. Pete Carroll is a defensive guy, and with the future of the QB position locked up he gets a guy with a wide array of pass rush moves who plays with an endless motor that any team would love to have coming off the edge. There is the possibility Carroll could go USC here, and grab Mays, I just think Morgan at 14 is just too good to pass up, and Mays could be around for Carroll in the 2nd.

15. ROLANDO McCLAIN 6′4″ 256 ILB ALABAMA

There is little question where the G-Men need to make improvements this offseason and it begins in the middle with the selection of Rolando McClain. With Antonio Pierce coming off of a neck injury, and slowed by a combination of age and injury, middle linebacker is a need that must be addressed. At 6?4? and 256lbs. is a monster and boasts 4.6 speed who is stout against the run and exceptional is pass coverage for a player his size, which will be vital in new DC Perry Fewell’s Tampa 2 Style D. McClain has made plays since the day he stepped on campus at Alabama, and look for him to be New York’s team leader for years to come.

16. CARLOS DUNLAP 6′6″ 290 DE FLORIDA   

The Titans ranked 31st in the league against the pass last season giving up an unreal 258 yards a game through the air. Detroit was the only team to line up on Sundays and do worse. Haden is long gone by now, so the Titans go with the one thing that can make average DB’s look good, a pass rusher. Dunlap’s off-field problems have been well documented, and laziness has been an issue as well. Jeff Fisher is one of the best in the league at dealing with personalities, so these issues won’t scare him off, and selects this top-5 talent at 16.

17. C.J. SPILLER 5′11″ 195 RB CLEMSON

Many mocks have Spiller going to the 49ers. I was in disagreement with this for quite a while, but I have drank the kool-aid, and I now agree. Frank Gore is still young no doubt, but he takes alot of punishment as he has logged a ton of carries, and has been a focal point in San Fran’s catching game for years. Spiller will help take some of the pressure off of Gore, will allow him to stay fresh, and keep some miles off of Gores legs. Spiller is a dynamic threat in all phases of the game, and look for him to upgrade their special teams immediately as well.

18. EARL THOMAS 5′10″ 195 S TEXAS

The Troy Polamolu loss crushed the defending Super Bowl champs any chance of a repeat. The Steelers gave up a league most 5 leads in the 4th quarter this past season which was the main reason they were on the outside looking in on the post season tournament. With the possibility of Ryan Clark leaving via free agency, look for Pitt to select this ballhawk out of Texas who has the ability to stop the run, with the ability to capitalize on the oppositions mistakes through the air with the ability to take it back to the house. The Steelers could also go with C.J. Spiller here to work with Mendenhall if he slides, or possibly a Receiver as Hines Ward is on his last legs.

19. DONOVAN WARREN 6′1″ 182 CB MICHIGAN

Atlantas secondary was one the worst in the league in ‘09. You know its bad when former 1st round bust and Rams reject Tye Hill walks out as part of your secondary. Enter Warren. With 4.3 speed and above average size for a corner look for Warren to become the difference maker Atlanta was lacking this past season.

20. JONATHAN DWYER 6′0″ 235 RB GEORGIA TECH

The Texans could go quite a few ways here as they could use help in the secondary as well as the D-Line. They go with Dwyer here to be the inside runner they have lacked from the beginning. With Dwyer they get an inside runner who keeps good pad level through the hole, and gives more hits than he takes. Dwyer and Slaton will form a nice tandem in the backfield, and force the opposition to bring more players into the box, thus opening up the big play downfield for Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson.

21. GOLDEN TATE 5′11″ 195 WR NOTRE DAME

Cincy MUST get a receiver this off-season. I can definitely see T.O. going over there and making a difference, which will change the direction in which Lewis uses this pick, but for now, we’ll assume otherwise. Cincinatti has become a run first pass later team. Cedric Benson has rejuvinated his career, running for over 1,200 yards this past season. Teams are able to crowd the box making it harder on Benson due to the fact they only have one wideout that poses any threat, in Ochocinco. The pick here is Tate. Tate will help open up some running lanes for Benson, while giving Carson Palmer another option. At times this past season it seemed as if the only number Palmer saw was 85. This will help with his progressions, and make him the prime passer he truly is. In addition Tate can help in special teams, which is always a plus, especially when it comes to rookies. Benn or Williams could be the pick here as well, but with a stout D, and a big time runner, there is little doubt, Marvin Lewis needs to help his passing game.

22. JERRY HUGHES 6′2″ 255 DE/OLB TCU   

Initially, I had the Pats going with a running back or even a tight end here, but after the beating the Ravens put on them at home, I feel they need a complete overhaul on D. With Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel both traded, the Pats were left with few playmakers and even less experience this season. Hughes will be able to step in immediately and help that putrid defense that left the Patriot faithful booing their home team for the first time in years. Hughes is the speed rusher off the edge the Pats need to disrupt the oppositions backfield, and with Belicheck running the D, look for Hughes to take his athleticism and speed, and bring back the intimidation the Pats D has lost over the years.

23. TRENT WILLIAMS 6′5″ 318 OT OKLAHOMA

The Packers allowed a league worst 51 sacks this season. If it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers mobility god only knows how many times their QB would have hit the floor. Williams’ stock has falled a bit this year but the fact that he has great feet, and is very athletic on the edge should be enough to make him the pick here. Even after having 45 put on their Defense in the Wild Card round, the O-Line is what needs to be addressed to protect their franchise QB, and any hopes they have of returning to the playoffs.

24. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES TAYLOR MAYS 6′4″ 225 S SOUTHERN CAL  

At 6?4?, 225 Mays is that rare player in the secondary that hits like a linebacker and runs like a corner. Although mays boasts 4.4 speed there are questions surrounding his ability in coverage. With that being said there is little doubt about his ability to stop the run and lay the wood against receivers who dare to come over the middle. Philly could go a few ways here but Reid goes with the talent and takes Mays to try and fill the shoes of Philly favorite Brian Dawkins, and solidify that secondary.

25. ARRELIOUS BENN 6′2″ 220 WR ILLINOIS

The Ravens leading receiver this season is a 35 year old who had thoughts of retirement going into the ‘09 training camp. The Ravens have a few areas that could use help, but none more than the receiving corps. Benn is a big, physical receiver, however he had an absolutely horrific season at Illinois totaling 38 grabs for 490 and 2 TD’s. Benn has taken a few hits for his lack of effort and the amount of drops this past season, but I feel need, and potential win out here and the pick is Benn. With a good quarterback getting him the Ball, and some coaching to go with it, Benn will develop into the #1 receiver Baltimore has been lacking since their inception.

26. JERMAINE GRESHAM 6′6″ 258 TE OKLAHOMA 

With Kurt Warner retiring and Matt Leinert at the helm, the offense will be run much differently this season. Leinert is in essence a rookie, and the one thing a rookie QB needs is a safety valve. None of the tight ends on the Cards are much of a receiving threat, and they add Gresham here to change that. Gresham has dealt with injury throughout his career, but his potenital and ability make him a steal at 26.

27. TERRANCE CODY 6′5″ 365 DT ALABAMA

Dallas could opt to shore up the future of their O-line with Charles Brown still left on the board, but they’ll go to the interior with this pick and take Mount Cody out of Alabama. This pick would allow Jay Ratliff to move to the D-End spot, and make their front 7 much more dynamic. While Cody may only be a 2 down player he is stout against the run, and can collapse the pocket against the pass. Cody also excels on special teams, as he has blocked more than a few FG attempts in his day, none more notable than his blocked FGA in the closing seconds vs. U of Tenn., to keep the perfect season in tact which allowed the Tide to roll on to the national championship.

28. JAHVID BEST 5′10″ 195 RB CALIFORNIA

LaDanian Tomlinson is done in San Diego. Darren Sproles is obviously not a feature back and the pick here is local boy Jahvid Best. Best draws his best comparisons to Chris Johnson with his burning sub 4.4 speed. Best has questions about his durability, but his potential outweighs all else and becomes the feature back for the Chargers. Norv Turner could also go for Spikes here, but there is a decent chance Spikes, or a player with comparable talent are available in the 2nd.

29. BRANDON GRAHAM 6′1″ 263 OLB MICHIGAN

Brandon Graham put on an absolute show at the Senior Bowl taking home MVP honors. While the Jets are ranked #1 in total D, those numbers are skewed do to the amount of time they possess the ball, running the ball a league high 60%, thus limiting the oppositions opportunities. The Jets rank 18th in sacks with 32 to their credit, and adding Graham here will help Tannenbaum forget about that 2008 draft when he wasted the #6 pick on Vernon Ghoulston.

30. BRIAN PRICE  6′2″ 300 DT UCLA

Who know’s if Brett Favre wil come back or not so depending on how Colt McCoy fares on his pro day he could be the pick here, but with Williams getting older and more injury prone every year, the Vikings select Price. Price is as explosive as they come and is equally impressive against the run and the pass. He has quick feet, long arms, and in time could become one of the leagues premier interior lineman, and help keep Minnessotta a top team vs. the run.

New Orleans drafts for need in this spot going to Weatherspoon to add some youth to the Saints linebacking corps. Weatherspoon ranks out as the top 4-3 linebacker on the board. Weatherspoon is a tackling machine, with good vision, and above average speed. His performance in the Senior Bowl should solidify him a spot in the first round, and his leadership abilities make him a complete player for any team on draft day.

I know what you’re thinking. This is rediculous. I agree. This pick will be made more for ticket sales and marketing than anything else. The Jags were a contender throughout, and fell victim to blackouts and thousands of empty seats at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Tebow is a folk hero of sorts in Florida, and his presence will immediately inject a frenzy into Jaguar fans to an unthought of level. There is no question Tebow is an elite athlete and “football player,” however his long arm mechanics, and the offense he comes from will make this a huge project for Jack Del Rio, and his coaching staff. With Tebow announcing he will attend the Senior Bowl it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the pro style offense.

Pete Carroll is a defensive guy, and with the future of the QB position locked up he gets a guy with a wide array of pass rush moves who plays with an endless motor that any team would love to have coming off the edge.

15. ROLANDO McCLAIN 6′4″ 256 ILB ALABAMA

There is little question where the G-Men need to make improvements this offseason and it begins in the middle with the selection of Rolando McClain. With Antonio Pierce coming off of a neck injury, and slowed by a combination of age and injury, middle linebacker is a need that must be addressed. At 6?4? and 256lbs. is a monster and boasts 4.6 speed who is stout against the run and exceptional is pass coverage for a player his size, which will be vital in new DC Perry Fewell’s Tampa 2 Style D. McClain has made plays since the day he stepped on campus at Alabama, and look for him to be New York’s team leader for years to come.

16. PATRICK ROBINSON 5′11″ 195 CB FLORIDA STATE  

The Titans ranked 31st in the league against the pass last season giving up an unreal 258 yards a game through the air. Detroit was the only team to line up on Sundays and do worse. With Haden off the board. the Titans go down to the sunshine state and select Robinson. Look for Robinson to start out of the gate and shore up the secondary. Earl Thomas is also a possibility here, as well as Bowman to help out the LB corps.

17. TERRANCE CODY 6′5″ 365 DT ALABAMA

The niners continue to solidify the defense with the selection of Cody to keep interior lineman off of superstar Patrick Willis. While Cody is only a 2 down player he is stout against the run, and can collapse the pocket against the pass. Cody also excels on special teams, as he has blocked more than a few FG attempts in his day, none more notable than his blocked FGA in the closing seconds vs. U of Tenn., to keep the perfect season in tact which allowed the Tide to roll on to the national championship.

18. EARL THOMAS 5′10″ 195 S TEXAS

The Troy Polamolu loss crushed the defending Super Bowl champs any chance of a repeat. The Steelers gave up a league most 5 leads in the 4th quarter this past season which was the main reason they were on the outside looking in on the post season tournament. With the possibility of Ryan Clark leaving via free agency, look for Pitt to select this ballhawk out of Texas who has the ability to stop the run, with the ability to capitalize on the oppositions mistakes through the air with the ability to take it back to the house. The Steelers could also go with C.J. Spiller here to work with Mendenhall, or possibly a Receiver as Hines Ward is on his last legs.

19. DONOVAN WARREN 6′1″ 182 CB MICHIGAN

Atlantas secondary was one the worst in the league in ‘09. You know its bad when former 1st round bust and Rams reject Tye Hill walks out as part of your secondary. Enter Warren. With 4.3 speed and above average size for a corner look for Warren to become the difference maker Atlanta was lacking this past season.

20. JONATHAN DWYER 6′ 235 RB GEORGIA TECH

The Texans could go quite a few ways here as they could use help in the secondary as well as the D-Line. They go with Dwyer here to be the inside runner they have lacked from the beginning. With Dwyer they get an inside runner who keeps good pad level through the hole, and gives more hits than he takes. Dwyer and Slaton will form a nice tandem in the backfield, and force the opposition to bring more players into the box, thus opening up the big play downfield for Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson.

21. DAMIAN WILLIAMS 6′1″ 195 WR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Cincinatti has become a run first pass later team. Cedric Benson has rejuvinated his career, running for over 1,200 yards this past season. Teams are able to crowd the box making it harder on Benson due to the fact they only have one wideout that poses any threat, in Ochocinco. The pick here is Williams. Williams will help open up some running lanes for Benson, while giving Carson Palmer another option. At times this past season it seemed as if the only number Palmer saw was 85. This will help with his progressions, and make him the prime passer he truly is. Damian Williams had 90 receptions for 1,010 yards to go along with 6 td’s, in a year in which he had to work with a true freshman QB, in a pro style offense. The Arkansas transfer runs routes better than any receiver in the draft, and always catches the ball off of his body. With Williams traits, and Cincinatti’s need, this is a no brainer.

22. JERRY HUGHES 6′2″ 255 DE/OLB TCU  

Initially, I had the Pats going with Spiller here, but after the beating the Ravens put on them at home, I feel they need a complete overhaul on D. With Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel both traded, the Pats were left with few playmakers and even less experience this season. Hughes will be able to step in immediately and help that putrid defense that left the Patriot faithful booing their home team for the first time in years. Hughes is the speed rusher off the edge the Pats need to disrupt the oppositions backfield, and with Belicheck running the D, look for Hughes to take his athleticism and speed, and bring back the intimidation the Pats D has lost over the years.

23. TRENT WILLIAMS 6′5″ 318 OT OKLAHOMA

The Packers allowed a league worst 51 sacks this season. If it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers mobility god only knows how many times their QB would have hit the floor. Williams’ stock has falled a bit this year but the fact that he has great feet, and is very athletic on the edge should be enough to make him the pick here. Even after having 45 put on their Defense in the Wild Card round, the O-Line is what needs to be addressed to protect their franchise QB, and any hopes they have of returning to the playoffs.

24. C.J. SPILLER 5′11″ 195 RB CLEMSON

The Eagles have a few needs on the defensive line and secondary, but when Spiller falls down to 24, Reid snatches him up to replace the oft-injured Brian Westbrook. Spiller is a bigger version of Westbrook with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, and an absolute monster in the open field. Spiller will add to the firepower McNabb already has at his disposal, and look for Spiller to bring his game breaking ability to special teams, returning punts and kicks in Philly.

25. ARRELIOUS BENN 6′2″ 220 WR ILLINOIS

The Ravens leading receiver this season is a 35 year old who had thoughts of retirement going into the ‘09 training camp. The Ravens have a few areas that could use help, but none more than the receiving corps. Benn is a big, physical receiver, however he had an absolutely horrific season at Illinois totaling 38 grabs for 490 and 2 TD’s. Benn has taken a few hits for his lack of effort and the amount of drops this past season, but I feel need, and potential win out here and the pick is Benn. With a good quarterback getting him the Ball, and some coaching to go with it, Benn will develop into the #1 receiver Baltimore has been lacking since their inception.

26. CARLOS DUNLAP 6′6″ 280 DE FLORIDA

Dunlap has had his share of off field problems and has been criticized for being lazy and taking plays off from time to time. With that being said Dunlap has big time talent, and at this point in the round, it is worth it to take some what of a flier on a player. There is no question what you get in Dunlap as far as talent. He is a mirror image of Mario Williams as far as measurables are concerned, and Dunlap will immediately step in and be a force on the Cardinals D.

27. CHARLES BROWN 6′5″ 296 OT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

With Flozell Adams, the Cowboys have the dirtiest player in the NFL and a penalty machine. How he didn’t get suspended for pushing Justin Tuck from behind in Week 13 is beyond me. Jerry Jones would be smart to take on some offensive line help here and select Brown, as Adams only has a bit more wear left on the tires. Brown is a former tight end, so athleticism and feet are not a question, but his weigh in at the combine will determine exactly where he falls in this years draft.

28. JAHVID BEST 5′10″ 195 RB CALIFORNIA

LaDanian Tomlinson is done in San Diego. Darren Sproles is obviously not a feature back and the pick here is local boy Jahvid Best. Best draws his best comparisons to Chris Johnson with his burning sub 4.4 speed. Best has questions about his durability, but his potential outweighs all else and becomes the feature back for the Chargers. Norv Turner could also go for Spikes here, but there is a decent chance Spikes, or a player with comparable talent are available in the 2nd.

29. SERGIO KINDLE 6′4″ 254 DE/OLB TEXAS

With Braylon Edwards under performing for the 2nd straight year, and Jerricho Cotchery being nothing more than a solid #2, the Jets could go receiver here. I have them taking Sergio Kindle here to give them the speed rusher they lack to take them from a great defense, to an exceptional one. While the Jets are ranked #1 in total D, those numbers are skewed do to the amount of time they possess the ball, running the ball a league high 60%, thus limiting the oppositions opportunities. The Jets rank 18th in sacks with 32 to their credit, and adding Kindle here will help Tannenbaum forget about that 2008 draft when he wasted the #6 pick on Vernon Ghoulston.

30. COLT McCOY 6′3″ 215 QB TEXAS

Brett Favre is only a Viking in the short term, and if Childress thought Tarvarris Jackson was the answer, he wouldn’t have brought Favre in. McCoy will have to prove himself through the combine and his pro day when it comes to arm strength, especially after the National Championship injury. If he shows he can make all the throws and work from under center, the Vikings select McCoy here as the heir apparent to Favre. With McCoy they will get a mobile QB who is a great leader, but above all a proven winner, and when it comes to QB’s that’s the only stat that counts.

31. SEAN WEATHERSPOON 6′1″ 245 OLB MISSOURI

New Orleans drafts for need in this spot going to Weatherspoon to add some youth to the Saints linebacking corps. Weatherspoon ranks out as the top 4-3 linebacker on the board. Weatherspoon is a tackling machine, with good vision, and above average speed. With Will Smith possibly on the way out, defensive end could be a position worth looking at, but one thing I do know is, this pick will be spent on the defensive side of the ball.

32. MIKE IUPATI 6′5″ 330 OG IDAHO

The Colts allowed a league low amount of sacks this season with 13, but in my opinion that has more to do with Peyton’s quick release and blitz recognition, than it does line performance. With Iupati the Colts get the top ranked OG in the draft. Iupati may not be able to step in Week 1 and start, but after some time with the Indy coaching staff, he will no doubt be ready by mid-season 2010, and a full time starter in 2011. The Colts could look to address an injury prone secondary as well.

The Rams have glaring needs all over the field. Steven Jackson is the only playmaker to walk out of the St. Louis locker room on Sundays. Look for Spagnuolo, a defensive minded head coach, to address one of his needs by taking Suh here. A rare blend of size, speed and strength, Suh will wreak havoc in the oppositions backfield for years to come, and be the core of what the Rams hope is an up and coming defense.

2. DETROIT LIONS RUSSELL OKUNG 6′5″ 300 OT OKLAHOMA STATE

The Lions have plenty of needs and could go in quite a few directions. The Lions select Okung here to protect the investment that was made with the #1 pick in last years draft. Detroit allowed 43 sacks to go along with 94 hits on the QB this past season, leaving them in the bottom ten of the NFL in both categories. In Okung they get a player with good size, long arms, and above average strength to go along with his excellent feet and athleticism. Detroit could also take Gerald McCoy here but their main goal should be to keep Stafford upright and out on the field, instead of inside the trainers room or on the operating table.

3.TAMPA BAY BUCS GERALD McCOY 6′4″ 297 DT OKLAHOMA

The Bucs have a tremendous set of needs heading into the 2010 season. This pick will remain on the defensive side of the ball in an attempt to bring back some swagger into Tampa. I have changed this pick from Berry to McCoy because in my opinion you need to build inside out, and above all else be able to stop the run. While Berry will support the run defense, McCoy will have his nose right in the middle of it, and be a building block for Raheem Morris to build around. McCoy will step in immediately, and with his high motor, and explosiveness he will be a game changer, and be a big piece to revitalizing the defense for the Bucs.

4. WASHINGTON REDSKINS JIMMY CLAUSEN 6′3″ 223 QB NOTRE DAME

With the hire of Mike Shannahan there isn’t a doubt in my mind he selects a QB with this selection. In my opinion Campbell never had a chance to truly prove himself with the continuous carousel of coordinators and a lack of the depth at the reciever position, Shannahan is starting over, and that new beginning starts under center. Claussen has been a highly touted prospect since the day he showed up in South Bend, so the transition from the college ranks to the pro ranks should be somewhat seamless, minus the basic growing pains of a rookie QB. Claussen has good size and can make all of the throws, and has excellent feet which often goes unnoticed. As a 3 year starter in ND’s pro style offense, he worked under center and is competent with the play action which makes him the 2010’s draft #1 QB taken.

5. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ERIC BERRY 5′11″ 203 S U. of TENNESSEE

With the emergence of Jamaal Charles and last seasons addition of Matt Cassel, Todd Haley now has some playmakers and youth to build around. KC could definitely use a tackle here due to the fact they have a horrific offensive line, but Berry is simply too good to pass up here. Berry draws comparisons to future hall of famer Ed Reed, with 4.4 speed, a nose for the ball, and the ability to lay the wood on opposing receivers who travel over the middle. Berry will bring leadership to a secondary that has been lacking, and help Romeo Crennel change the culture of the Chief defense for years to come.

6. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS SAM BRADFORD 6′4″ 223 QB OKLAHOMA

With Matt Hasselbeck well past his prime it is time for Seattle to bring in the ‘08 Heisman Winner and groom his as Hasselbeck’s successor. Bradford may have gone #1 overall last season however he opted to return to his senior season, one that was maligned with injury. Some question his post op arm strength, his durability, and his transition to the pro style offense. Bradford will have the opportunity to prove the nay sayers wrong come the combine, which he will landing him with the Seahawks.

7.CLEVELAND BROWNS BRUCE CAMPBELL 6′7″ 310 OT MARYLAND

Eric Mangini has quite a few needs on each side of the ball here. He needs a big time threat at receiver, but it would be unlike him to take somewhat of a risk on Dez Bryant at point in the draft. Cleveland will go with the safe pick here and take Campbell to replace John St. Clair. With Campbell they get a player who has been absolutely dominant throughout his college career. He is equally impressive in run and pass blocking, and will shore up the edge for the Browns, and allow Quinn to prove whether he is or isn’t the Browns quarterback of the future.

8. OAKLAND RAIDERS DERRICK MORGAN 6′4″ 220 DE GEORGIA TECH

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to Al Davis and the draft. Al loves measurables. Morgan has questions when it comes to his motor but after he puts on a show at this years combine, that will be all Al needs to make Morgan the pick. Morgan has a wide array of pass rushing moves and plays with an endless motor that any GM loves in a pick. His range and athleticism will make him a nightmare opposite Richard Seymour, leaving opposing QB’s and Offensive Coordinators awake at night trying to stop the duo.

9. BUFFALO BILLS ANTHONY DAVIS 6′6″ 330 OT RUTGERS

Some feel the Bills lack a QB for the future, but with Claussen and Bradford off of the board their choice is made for them, and they go with their most glaring need of all, offensive tackle. The Bills allowed 46 sacks this past season, good for 4th worst in the league, and with Davis, they upgrade immediately. Davis is a big time athlete, and can be left out on an island at left tackle, and is absolutely dominant in run blocking, and will allow whoever is behind center to grow into the position, and move the offense down the field.

10. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS TIM TEBOW 6′3″ 235 QB FLORIDA

I know what you’re thinking. This is rediculous. I agree. This pick will be made more for ticket sales and marketing than anything else. The Jags were a contender throughout, and fell victim to blackouts and thousands of empty seats at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Tebow is a folk hero of sorts in Florida, and his presence will immediately inject a frenzy into Jaguar fans to an unthought of level. There is no question Tebow is an elite athlete and “football player,” however his long arm mechanics, and the offense he comes from will make this a huge project for Jack Del Rio, and his coaching staff. With Tebow announcing he will attend the Senior Bowl it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the pro style offense.

11. DENVER BRONCOS-from CHI. DEZ BRYANT 6′2″ 210 WR OKLAHOMA STATE

It is quite obvious that Josh McDaniels and Brandon Marshall can no longer co-exist in the same locker room. With Marshall moving on in the offseason, Bryant will be the pick here, and eventually evolve into the #1 receiver that Brandon Marshall was. Look for Bryant to have scouts in awe at the combine due to the fact he has the size, speed and athleticism to wreak havoc on the oppositions secondary.

12. MIAMI DOLPHINS JASON PIERRE-PAUL 6′6″ 260 DE/OLB SOUTH FLORIDA

With Jason Taylor nearing the end of his career and not as fleet a foot as he once was, look for Bill Parcells to add this DeMarcus Ware clone to team up with Joey Porter, giving the Dolphins potentially the most dynamic set of edge rushers in the AFC. JPP is extremely raw and lacks experience but with a 4.6 forty in his back pocket, his potential is unlimited.

13. SAN FRANCISCO 49ers JOE HADEN 5′11″ 190 CB FLORIDA

While reciever is one of the bigger needs for the niners, Bryant is off the board and it is too early for Williams or Benn. Singletary goes to the defensive side of the ball to add Haden, the 1st true freshman to start the season opener in UF history. Look for Haden to do more of the same on Sundays, as he will be a starter the day he straps on a San Fran helmet. He will start alongside Nate Clements, immediately upgrading the NFL’s 21st ranked D against the pass.

27. DALLAS COWBOYS CHARLES BROWN 6′5″ 296 OT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

With Flozell Adams, the Cowboys have the dirtiest player in the NFL and a penalty machine. How he didn’t get suspended for pushing Justin Tuck from behind in Week 13 is beyond me. Jerry Jones would be smart to take on some offensive line help here and select Brown, as Adams only has a bit more wear left on the tires. Brown is a former tight end, so athleticism and feet are not a question, but his weigh in at the combine will determine exactly where he falls in this years draft.

28. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS BRANDON SPIKES 6′3″ 256 ILB FLORIDA

The Chargers address a need here as they could use some more bulk on the inside to make plays and they get this in Spikes. At this point in the draft, Spikes is a steal. To many, Spikes made a big mistake coming back for his senior season, because it exposed some problems in his game. Norv Turner looks at his potential with this pick, even though he has been shown to get lost in coverage at times but there is no question about his ability to diagnose the run, and is the definition of a heavy hitter.

29.NEW YORK JETS SERGIO KINDLE 6′4″ 254 DE/OLB TEXAS

With Braylon Edwards under performing for the 2nd straight year, and Jerricho Cotchery being nothing more than a solid #2, the Jets could go receiver here. I have them taking Sergio Kindle here to give them the speed rusher they lack to take them from a great defense, to an exceptional one. While the Jets are ranked #1 in total D, those numbers are skewed do to the amount of time they possess the ball, running the ball a league high 60%, thus limiting the oppositions opportunities. The Jets rank 18th in sacks with 32 to their credit, and adding Kindle here will help Tannenbaum forget about that 2008 draft when he wasted the #6 pick on Vernon Ghoulston.

30. MINNESOTA VIKINGS COLT McCOY 6′3″ 215 QB TEXAS

Brett Favre is only a Viking in the short term, and if Childress thought Tarvarris Jackson was the answer, he wouldn’t have brought Favre in. McCoy will have to prove himself through the combine and his pro day when it comes to arm strength, especially after the National Championship injury. If he shows he can make all the throws and work from under center, the Vikings select McCoy here as the heir apparent to Favre. With McCoy they will get a mobile QB who is a great leader, but above all a proven winner, and when it comes to QB’s that’s the only stat that counts.

31. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS BRIAN PRICE 6′2″ 300 DT UCLA

The Saints showed their biggest weakness while losing their first game of the season on a Saturday Night game vs. Dallas. Dallas ran for 145 yds and 2 td’s en route to crashing the undefeated party and there is no better way to stuff the run than drafting a big time run stopper. Price is as explosive as they come and is equally impressive against the run and the pass. He has quick feet, long arms, and in time could become one of the leagues premier interior lineman. The Saints could go Tight End here as well, with Gresham and Hernandez on the board.

32. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS JAVIER ARENAS 5′9″ 198 CB ALABAMA

The Colts have been fortunate this season with relatively young players stepping in at the secondary positions. Bill Polian gets more of a sure thing here in Arenas. Arenas has very fluid hips, and great hands for a DB, as well as being able to change the game, with one touch of the ball in the return game. His return abilities alone would land him in the 2nd round alone, and at this spot they get a player who can grow into a nice starting corner, who can tackle in open space, which although it goes without saying, is huge for an undersized player on the edge. Weatherspoon is a possibility here as well.

1. St. Louis Rams NDAMUKONG SUH 6′4″ 300 DT NEBRASKA
The Rams have glaring needs all over the field. Steven Jackson is the only playmaker to walk out of the St. Louis locker room on Sundays. Look for Spagnuolo, a defensive minded head coach, to address one of his needs by taking Suh here. A rare blend of size, speed and strength, Suh will wreak havoc in the oppositions backfield for years to come, and be the core of what the Rams hope is an up and coming defense.

2. Detroit Lions RUSSELL OKUNG 6′5″ 300 OT OKLAHOMA STATE
The Lions have plenty of needs and could go in quite a few directions. The Lions select Okung here to protect the investment that was made with the #1 pick in last years draft. Detroit allowed 43 sacks to go along with 94 hits on the QB this past season, leaving them in the bottom ten of the NFL in both categories. In Okung they get a player with good size, long arms, and above average strength to go along with his excellent feet and athleticism. Detroit could also take Gerald McCoy here but their main goal should be to keep Stafford upright and out on the field, instead of inside the trainers room or on the operating table.

3. Tampa Bay Bucs ERIC BERRY 5′11 203 S U. OF TENNESSEE
The days of Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp mauling the opposition have long been forgotten. Look for the bucs to add a guy most are saying is the second coming of Ed Reed. With 4.4 speed and a nose for the ball look for Berry to make a formidable tandem with Tanard Jackson, and bring some swagger back to the defensive side of the ball in Tampa.

4. Washington Redskins JIMMY CLAUSSEN 6′3″ 223 QB NOTRE DAME
With the hire of Mike Shannahan there isn’t a doubt in my mind he selects a QB with this selection. In my opinion Campbell never had a chance to truly prove himself with the continuous carousel of coordinators and a lack of the depth at the reciever position, Shannahan is starting over, and that new beginning starts under center. Claussen has been a highly touted prospect since the day he showed up in South Bend, so the transition from the college ranks to the pro ranks should be somewhat seamless, minus the basic growing pains of a rookie QB. Claussen has good size and can make all of the throws, and has excellent feet which often goes unnoticed. As a 3 year starter in ND’s pro style offense, he worked under center and is competent with the play action which makes him the 2010’s draft #1 QB taken.

5. Kansas City Chiefs BRUCE CAMPBELL 6′7″ 310 OT MARYLAND
With the emergence of Jamaal Charles and last seasons addition of Matt Cassel, Todd Haley now has some playmakers and youth to build around. This may be a bit early for Campbell, but with Okung off the board at #2, Campbell is the pick. Campbell has been dominant in his college career, and is equally impressive in both his run blocking and pass protection. With KC allowing 45 sacks and 83 hits on the QB, Campbell will be a welcome addition in KC. McCoy is a possibility here as well.

6. Seattle Seahawks SAM BRADFORD 6′4″ 223 QB OKLAHOMA
With Matt Hasselbeck well past his prime it is time for Seattle to bring in the ‘08 Heisman Winner and groom his as Hasselbeck’s successor. Bradford may have gone #1 overall last season however he opted to return to his senior season, one that was maligned with injury. Some question his post op arm strength, his durability, and his transition to the pro style offense. Bradford will have the opportunity to prove the nay sayers wrong come the combine, which he will landing him with the Seahawks.

7. Cleveland Browns DEZ BRYANT 6′2″ 210 WR OKLAHOMA STATE
After trading Braylon Edwards to the Jets and Kellen Winslow to the Bucs, the browns receiving corps without a #1 pass threat. Mohammed Massaquoi led cleveland with 34 receptions and 624 yards to go with 3 td’s in the NFL’s 32nd ranked passing offense. Dez Bryant is an instant infusion of talent and the game changer Brady Quinn needs to lift himself to the next level. Look for Bryant to have scouts in awe at the combine due to the fact he has the size, speed and athleticism to wreak havoc on the oppositions secondary.

8. Oakland Raiders RYAN MALLETT 6′6″ 250 QB ARKANSAS
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to Al Davis and the draft. With questionable picks in Russell, Heyward-Bey and Mike Mitchell(Who???), one thing Al loves is measurables. In Al’s world the perfect offense is a rocket armed QB and speed all over the field. Mallett is certainly the former. Mallett is most similar to Joe Flacco when it comes to size and arm strength. Mallett has the strongest arm in the class however he offers zero mobility and has had very little experience in the collegiate level. Mallett has tremendous upside but is very raw and unpolished. With Cable on the way out, look for Oakland to start over, AGAIN, this time with Mallett at the helm.

9. Buffalo Bills GERALD McCOY 6′4″ 297 DT OKLAHOMA
Gerald McCoy could easily be a top 5 pick, and is a steal at this point in the draft. With Buffalo finishing 19th against the run this past season, McCoy will be able to immediately step in and become a difference maker with his non-stop motor, and his explosiveness at the snap. QB could also be addressed here as well, because of the change at the HC position, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Trent Edwards get another shot.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars TIM TEBOW 6′3″ 235 QB FLORIDA
I know what you’re thinking. This is rediculous. I agree. This pick will be made more for ticket sales and marketing than anything else. The Jags were a contender throughout, and fell victim to blackouts and thousands of empty seats at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Tebow is a folk hero of sorts in Florida, and his presence will immediately inject a frenzy into Jaguar fans to an unthought of level. There is no question Tebow is an elite athlete and “football player,” however his long arm mechanics, and the offense he comes from will make this a huge project for Jack Del Rio, and his coaching staff. With Tebow announcing he will attend the Senior Bowl it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the pro style offense.

11. Denver Broncos-from CHI. ROLANDO McCLAIN 6′4″ 256 ILB ALABAMA
Andra Davis is getting a bit long in the tooth at 31, and the Broncos could use an infusion of youth on the defensive side of the ball. McClain at 6′4″ and 256lbs. is a monster and boasts 4.6 speed who is stout against the run and exceptional is pass coverage for a player his size. McClain has made plays since the day he stepped on campus at Alabama, and look for him to be Denver’s team leader for years to come.

12. Miami Dolphins JASON PIERRE-PAUL 6′6″ 260 DE/OLB SOUTH FLORIDA
With Jason Taylor nearing the end of his career and not as fleet a foot as he once was, look for Bill Parcells to add this DeMarcus Ware clone to team up with Joey Porter, giving the Dolphins potentially the most dynamic set of edge rushers in the AFC. JPP is extremely raw and lacks experience but with a 4.6 forty in his back pocket, his potential is unlimited.

13. San Francisco 49ers JOE HADEN 5′11″ 190 CB FLORIDA
While reciever is one of the bigger needs for the niners, Bryant is off the board and it is too early for Williams or Benn. Singletary goes to the defensive side of the ball to add Haden, the 1st true freshman to start the season opener in UF history. Look for Haden to do more of the same on Sundays, as he will be a starter the day he straps on a San Fran helmet. He will start alongside Nate Clements, immediately upgrading the NFL’s 21st ranked D against the pass.

14. Seattle Seahawks from DEN. JAHVID BEST 5′10″ 195 RB CALIFORNIA
Seattle addressed the future of the QB position with Bradford with the #6 pick. They continue their offseason overhaul of the offense with RB Jahvid Best. Look for Best to team up with ex-Cal running mate Justin Forsett to create a nice 1-2 punch out of a Seattle backfield that hasn’t had a running threat since the days of Shaun Alexander. Best is slightly undersized and durability has been an issue at times but comparisons to Chris Johnson and sub 4.4 speed to go with it should land him here in the middle of the 1st round.

15. New York Giants TAYLOR MAYS 6′4″ 225 S SOUTHERN CAL
At 6′4″, 225 Mays is that rare player in the secondary that hits like a linebacker and runs like a corner. Although mays boasts 4.4 speed there are questions surrounding his ability in coverage. With that being said there is little doubt about his ability to stop the run and lay the wood against receivers who dare to come over the middle. There is little doubt as to where the Giants need to improve, and that is on the defensive side of the ball. Once Kenny Phillips went down, the Giants D went down with it. Mays is the pick here as he will be insurance if Phillips is unable to return to form, and if Phillips does return, Giants fans will be able to watch the most talented and intimidating safety tandem the league has ever seen.

16. Tennessee Titans PATRICK ROBINSON 5′11″ 195 CB FLORIDA STATE
The Titans ranked 31st in the league against the pass last season giving up an unreal 258 yards a game through the air. Detroit was the only team to line up on Sundays and do worse. With Haden off the board. the Titans go down to the sunshine state and select Robinson. Look for Robinson to start out of the gate and shore up the secondary. Earl Thomas is also a possibility here, as well as Bowman to help out the LB corps.

17. San Francisco 49ers from CAR. TERRANCE CODY 6′5″ 365 DT ALABAMA
The niners continue to solidify the defense with the selection of Cody to keep interior lineman off of superstar Patrick Willis. While Cody is only a 2 down player he is stout against the run, and can collapse the pocket against the pass. Cody also excels on special teams, as he has blocked more than a few FG attempts in his day, none more notable than his blocked FGA in the closing seconds vs. U of Tenn., to keep the perfect season in tact which allowed the Tide to roll on to the national championship.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers EARL THOMAS 5′10″ 195 S TEXAS
The Troy Polamolu loss crushed the defending Super Bowl champs any chance of a repeat. The Steelers gave up a league most 5 leads in the 4th quarter this past season which was the main reason they were on the outside looking in on the post season tournament. With the possibility of Ryan Clark leaving via free agency, look for Pitt to select this ballhawk out of Texas who has the ability to stop the run, with the ability to capitalize on the oppositions mistakes through the air with the ability to take it back to the house. The Steelers could also go with C.J. Spiller here to work with Mendenhall, or possibly a Receiver as Hines Ward is on his last legs.

19. Atlanta Falcons DONOVAN WARREN 6′1″ 182 CB MICHIGAN
Atlantas secondary was one the worst in the league in ‘09. You know its bad when former 1st round bust and Rams reject Tye Hill walks out as part of your secondary. Enter Warren. With 4.3 speed and above average size for a corner look for Warren to become the difference maker Atlanta was lacking this past season.

20. Houston Texans DERRICK MORGAN 6′4″ 220 DE GEORGIA TECH
The Texans could go quite a few ways here but with a player of Morgan’s ability to be on the board, he becomes the pick. Morgan has a wide array of pass rushing moves and plays with an endless motor that any GM loves in a pick. His range and athleticism will make him a nightmare opposite Mario Williams, leaving opposing QB’s and Offensive Coordinators awake at night trying to stop the duo.

21. Cincinatti Bengals GOLDEN TATE 5′11″ 195 WR NOTRE DAME
Cincinatti has become a run first pass later team. Cedric Benson has rejuvinated his career, running for over 1,200 yards this past season. Teams are able to crowd the box making it harder on Benson due to the fact they only have one wideout that poses any threat, in Ochocinco. The pick here is Tate. Tate will help open up some running lanes for Benson, while giving Carson Palmer another option. At times this past season it seemed as if the only number Palmer saw was 85. This will help with his progressions, and make him the prime passer he truly is. In addition Tate can help in special teams, which is always a plus, especially when it comes to rookies. Benn or Williams could be the pick here as well, but with a stout D, and a big time runner, there is little doubt, Marvin Lewis needs to help his passing game.

22. New England Patriots SERGIO KINDLE 6′4″ 254 DE/OLB TEXAS
Initially, I had the Pats going with Spiller here, but after the beating the Ravens put on them at home, I feel they need a complete overhaul on D. With Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel both traded, the Pats were left with few playmakers and even less experience this season. Kindle will be able to step in immediately and help that putrid defense that left the Patriot faithful booing their home team for the first time in years. Kindle is a phenomenal athlete who can make plays from sideline to sideline. Many expect Kindle to put on a show in the combine, solidifying his spot in the 1st round.

23. Green Bay Packers ANTHONY DAVIS 6′6″ 330 OT RUTGERS
The Packers allowed a league worst 51 sacks this season. If it wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers mobility god only knows how many times their QB would have hit the floor. Davis is a big time athlete to be out on an island at left tackle, and is absolutely dominant in run blocking. Iupati or Bulaga could be possibilites here as well. Even after having 45 put on their Defense in the Wild Card round, the O-Line is what needs to be addressed to protect their franchise QB, and any hopes they have of returning to the playoffs.

24. Philadelphia Eagles SEAN WEATHERSPOON 6′2″ 245 OLB MISSOURI
The addition of Will Witherspoon has been a welcoming one, but Philly needs to inject some youth into the linebacking corp, and Weatherspoon ranks out as the top 4-3 linebacker on the board. Weatherspoon is a tackling machine, with good vision, and above average speed. Andy Reid could also go DE here possibly with Hardy or Wooten to get reps opposite Trent Cole, and possibly even C.J. Spiller if Westbrook is let go.

26. Baltimore Ravens DAMIAN WILLIAMS 6′1″ 190 WR SOUTHERN CAL
The Ravens leading receiver this season is a 35 year old who had thoughts of retirement going into the ‘09 training camp. The Ravens have a few areas that could use help, but none more than the receiving corps. Damian Williams had 90 receptions for 1,010 yards to go along with 6 td’s, in a year in which he had to work with a true freshman QB, in a pro style offense. The Arkansas transfer runs routes better than any receiver in the draft, and always catches the ball off of his body. With Williams traits, and Baltimore’s need, this is a no brainer. Look for Williams to step in and add the deep threat the Ravens desperately need.

27. Arizona Cardinals CARLOS DUNLAP 6′6″ 280 DE FLORIDA
Dunlap has had his share of off field problems and has been criticized for being lazy and taking plays off from time to time. With that being said Dunlap has big time talent, and at this point in the round, it is worth it to take some what of a flier on a player. There is no question what you get in Dunlap as far as talent. He is a mirror image of Mario Williams as far as measurables are concerned, and Dunlap will immediately step in and be a force on the Cardinals D.
